PHNOM PENH, Dec 15 (Newsmekong) - Cambodia could be the latest Asian country to adopt tighter laws governing the activities of local and international non-governmental organisations (NGOs), a move many believe will put further pressure on the South-east Asian country's already fragile democratic space.

BANGKOK, Jan 3 - As 2008 came to an end, so did the World Health Organization's commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Declaration of Alma-Ata. Launched in late 1978 at the International Conference on Primary Health Care, the Declaration affirmed health as a fundamental human right and boldly proclaimed the goal of attaining health for all peoples of the world. It stressed the socio-cultural and economic determinants of health.

Due to the current flooding crisis in Bangkok, the Mekong Energy Journalism Workshop, originally set for Nov. 27-30, 2011, has been moved to 17 - 20 January 2012. Application submission deadline is on Dec. 2, 2011. The selection result will be announced on Dec. 14, 2011.
