Mekong Photo Exhibit in Siem Reap

What's New | Cambodia

A selection of photographs from the Imaging Our Mekong programme will be on exhibit at the FCC Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia from Mar. 24, to Apr. 14, 2007.

Entitled 'Our Mekong: Views from Within', the exhibit is a mix of photos by journalists from the six Mekong countries -- Burma, China, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam -- that take us on a journey through the changes this region has undergone in recent decades. From one identified with conflict and division, the Mekong region is today a region of rapid, uneven growth and of fast-opening borders, but also grappling with the challenges of poverty and human development.

After going on buses, airplanes, boats, tuk-tuks and motorbikes in search of their stories, the journalists -- all reporting from within a region home to them -- produced these stories with their lenses.

These journalists have been through the Imaging Our Mekong media fellowship programme (www.newsmekong.org), an annual programme that encourages in-depth reportage on transboundary issues in the Mekong region. The fellowship is implemented by IPS Asia-Pacific (www.ipsnewsasia.net), a regional foundation that produces news relevant to the global South and undertakes media development work, and Probe Media Foundation Inc. (www.probefound.com), which focuses on training TV professionals.

The exhibit is open to the public. Address of FCC Angkor -- Pokambor Avenue (next to the Royal Residence) Siem Reap, Cambodia.
