Highway to Link Bangladesh, China, Burma

DHAKA — China, Bangladesh and Myanmar have agreed to construct a  highway from the Chinese city of Kunming to Bangladesh's south-east  city of Chittagong through Myanmar's Mandalay. Bangladeshi Foreign  Minister M Morshed Khan, who was in Kuala Lumpur to attend the 13th  ASEAN Regional Forum meeting, announced this in a press briefing in  the Malaysian capital Jul. 30.

Khan said he had discussed the road connectivity with Chinese Foreign  Minister Li Zhaoxing and Myanmar Foreign Minister U Nyan Win. In his  meeting with the Chinese foreign minister, Khan said China is a great  friend of Bangladesh. Although Myanmar had some reservations in the  past about the matter, Khan said that it has now agreed to the tri- nation road connectivity. (Xinhua, Jul/ 30, 2006)
