IMAGING THE MEKONG DVD SET
This 2-disc DVD is a compilation of the documentaries created by the Imaging The Mekong Fellows for the 2004-05 cycle. DVD 1 provides a background on the fellowship activities translated in the six Mekong languages. One documentary per country is presented in the second DVD. The fellows faced numerous challenges in producing these documentaries, from getting permission to shoot across the border, travelling across and near border areas, to convincing people to be interviewed. Some of these reports are quite controversial and would be prohibited from being broadcast in the fellows’ own countries. These documentaries may be shared with media, cause-oriented groups, NGOs and the academe. They can be shown in workshops, seminars and conferences about the Mekong Region to spur discussion on the issues. We urge the viewer to look beyond the technical inconsistencies. These video reports are a reflection of the diverse media and political environments in the Mekong Region, where some journalists are freer than others to point out delicate situations in the region and challenge governments to resolve the problems presented.
